I have a 3rd grader this year and this is the year we are working to master multiplication. We have been learning skip counting for the last year and so I think we might be able to master it quite well this year. Multiplication slam is a great help for that. There are 5 games -- skip it (which is a skip counting game), fast facts (plain old multiplication drilling), factors (ex. 5 x ? = 10), pairs (you have to identify 2 numbers that produce the answer provided from a choice of 4 -- ex. ? x ? = 14, and you are offered 7, 5, 8 and 2 as possible choices), and sequence (where you have to find the missing number in a skip counting sequence). There are several levels for each game.It has a decent volume control and a headphone jack. Due to the number of options (there are 9 "slamming" surfaces), it's not nearly as loud as the math slam. It's also less appealing to the younger set because they have no idea what is going on. My third grader, on the other hand, has shown that she has several skip counting sets mastered and can do the whole thing in 7-8 seconds. If you are concerned about mastery and need something that the child can use on their own, this is a great pick. There are only so many worksheets and flashcard drills you can do! I would consider this great for a child in public, private or home school as a way to build mastery of multiplication tables inside, out, forward, & backward. Disclaimer: I received this item in exchange for an honest review.

As an educator, I LOVE the concept of this product. It's fun, engaging, and I love the skip counting game. At first, when we got this, my kids would fight over who got to use this game first. Then, I noticed no one playing with it. I thought it was because the novelty wore off, but it wasn't. When I asked why they quit playing with it, they replied that it doesn't work right. After trying it myself, the lights/numbers worked fine, and you could select the level, but the buttons wouldn't consistently respond when pressed. I replaced the batteries, thinking this was it the issue, but it was not. The concept is fabulous, the game is engaging, but it doesn't seem to last very long.

Great tool for learning multiplication!

About Me Parent Of Two Or More Children
My 8 year old got this as a gift and was not thrilled to see it involved practicing Math, but started playing with it and hasn't stopped since. It's a fun, colorful, & engaging toy that reinforces learning multiplication facts through a series of different games & challenges. My daughter loves to play it and we're seeing real improvement in her master of multiplication. I wish it included the number 10-12 tables & division, but it's a fabulous educational toy none-the-less!

Multiplication Slam is a "Slam Dunk"!

About Me Education Oriented, Parent Of Two Or More Children, Working Parent
My daughter is in the 5th grade and has found Multiplication Slam (by Educational Insights) to be fun and helpful. She likes the numerous options for memorizing her math facts, and thinks it's a fun way of learning. We both like that Multiplication Slam is portable--perfect for road trips-- and even has a headphone jack, so that she can work quietly without distracting others. Reinforcement of multiplication facts is so critical to higher order math, and I appreciate that she can study/work independently, increase her speed (the device shows the final elapsed time in each mode), and build her confidence. I hesitate to call Multiplication Slam a toy or game but I love that Educational Insights has successfully combined learning and fun!
Best Game Ever
About Me Education Oriented, Parent Of Two Or More Children
This is a great game. I have used it with several of my students and they all LOVE it. The game is great and can be used for all ability levels. I have used it with students who are just learning their multiplication tables to those who have mastered them and want to do a quick review. This is one of my favorite teaching tools. I am so glad I was chosen to receive item to test out!

Great toy for learning multiplication facts!
About Me Education Oriented, Parent Of Multiples (Twins etc), Parent Of Two Or More Children, Working Parent
We received this product in exchange for an honest review. Initially, my kids were less than enthusiastic about the idea of practicing math, but they have really enjoyed this product. Although it is a single-player game, the kids (ranging from 8 to 13) had a great time trying to best each other's best times, as well as their own. The type of practice included is helpful - skip counting, factors, pairs, etc. - and the interface is fun and has held up well to four boys playing with it. The kids enjoy the flashing lights and music, but you can also choose to mute it entirely. As mentioned in the description, the game targets the facts from 1 to 9... would love to see it include facts up to and including the 12 times tables, but other than that, it's a lot of fun and very portable, which makes it a great option for car trips and travel in general.
Multiplication Slam really gets my (almost) 10 year old excited about multiplication! While practicing, he said on two different occasions, "I (just) love this song!" I like it because it is portable (easy for him to hold or bring to another room), allows independent practice (I don't have to be there holding up flash cards) and has a variety of ways to play and requires him to think about things differently. He can look at his time and try to beat it next time. It reminded me a little bit of the group game I have that is called "Factor Frenzy" but I prefer this Multiplication Slam product. I haven't personally seen this happen, but on the description, it says that missed problems are recycled until they're answered correctly, which is a huge advantage for the learner! This is now one of my favorite toys/tool!
This was a hit with my kids
from Los Angeles, CA
This has quickly become a favorite toy not only for the intended child (my soon to be third grader) but for his older sisters as well. Multiplication Slam is a light, hand held toy that requires 3 AA batteries (not included). There is a dial that allows you to control the volume. There are several different multiplication games you can play, including Skip It, Fast Facts, Factors, and Sequence. These are all age/grade level appropriate and some have varying levels of difficulty. My kids loved Skip It, as they all tried to race and beat each other's time, making it a fun challenge that all three kids enjoyed. Right and wrong answers chosen make a beep sound, only difference is if a wrong answer is chosen, the tone of the beep is a little lower. The display lights around the middle screen light up, but the rectangular middle screen does not. I would definitely recommend this to kids learning multiplication.

Both kids loved this!

Both of my kids loved this! Neither have formally gone through multiplication in school but figured out the concept and patterns quickly. Great review/reinforcement tool to what is taught in school.
