I work with preschoolers with developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders, and this was a huge hit during a recent session. When this arrived, I was excited about using it to work on matching colors, following directions, and words in rhymes/songs - but I had no idea that the product worked on other things!! We loved taking the wand (for lack of a better word) and touching it to colors around us, even our table, shirts, papers, shoes, etc. What a fun tool for a scavenger hunt!

Pros: The songs that go with each color are very cute and the singing is great - no robot/computer voices here. The wand is sturdy. The songbook includes a few very common songs and was easy to use to tap each note of the song. I like that there are two volume options - neither of which was obnoxious. I liked that when the note on top lights up, it's not too bright or obnoxious for my students who can be a little sensitive.

Cons: I wish there were more than just a few songs in the songbook. As another reviewer mentioned, the songbook is kinda flimsy, especially at the seams. I felt like there was a slight learning curve on figuring out how to tap the wand to get it to label the colors. For a younger child, I could see this being a point of frustration. For my 3-4 year olds, it took about two minutes and they had it.

**I received this from Educational Insights to try out and review, but this review reflects only my own thoughts and opinions!

I received this toy from Educational Insights exchange for my honest review.

The book and the want looked really fun. My daughter was very excited to see the toy and wanted to play with it immediately. Unfortunately there was a bit of hiccup for us in figuring out how to use it and being engaged.

As with most of the toys I buy, I didn't bother to read the instruction. The first thing I tried was to push the colorful buttons on top and thought something was wrong since it wasn't doing anything. I think as the most prominent thing with the wand, it looked too "actionable" not to do anything.

When I figured to turn the switch on, not only my daughter but also I struggled to hit the mark on the book. She kept hitting on the book but since it didn't make any sound, she lost her interest quickly. I think it felt relatively worse because we have a similar interactive wand/interactive book which is very responsive and effortless.

My last suggestion would be, as some of other reviewers mentioned, to have some varieties in the songs rather than repeating the same song for the same color on all pages. Maybe it's intentional to help memorize colors? It did feel a bit boring though.

I really love the idea and intention of the toy. However, I have to say there are a couple of things to be improved to serve the purpose. Hope this helps.

Our kids love this toy! It's very intuitive and engaging. It has helped our kids learn quite a bit. Our 2-year-old learned her colors and our 4-year-old developed a deeper appreciation for music. Both kids love playing the songs in the book as well as testing it out on various objects around our home. I like the two different modes of interaction which encourage the kids to experiment with it in different ways. We also like that the plastic note on top lights up in the corresponding color. The tunes in song mode are catchy. I hear my kids repeating the rhyming lyrics even when they're not playing with the toy. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because my kids like the toy a little too much – it can grate on the nerves after a while, but that's when it's good to have the two volume levels! Also, be sure to use a brand new battery with it. The old ones from our kitchen drawer didn't work so well.

It's like a great CD of color songs that kids can DJ

When this first arrived, it look a little while for us to figure it out. You really have to press to get it to activate and that took a little for our three-year old to get used to. Because of this need to really press, using it to play songs from the book in note mode is difficult--the time you have to press doesn't match up with the tempo the songs need to be immediately recognizable. That being said, our son LOVES song mode. Think of this as less a "let's learn your colors" toy and more of an interactive CD that has really fun songs about colors. Unlike a typical CD situation where your toddler incessantly bugs you to go back to his favorite song, he can now play the song whenever he wants, he just has to find the color associated with it anywhere in the world. Our son sings along with all the songs--orange is his current favorite. The songs and light up note are also a hit with our 10 month old.

What a fun toy! My two year old was obsessed with this from the minute we took it out of the package, and my husband and I are even enthralled with the technology that can figure out pretty much any color. My daughter seems to like the Green song best, so has been touching green things around the house over and over. If the toy gets stumped with a color or pattern or isn't placed on the surface just right (although this rarely happens), it just tells you to try again. Firmer surfaces are best, as you have to press the little sensor down on the fabric or surface quite firmly. There is also a setting that allows you to create your own color-coded music note by note, which she likes now but may use more as she gets older. Very cool toy. As a disclaimer, we were given this toy for free in exchange for our review, but I would buy it myself in a heartbeat. In fact, this may be our go-to birthday present toy this year.

Such a neat toy! Both my 17-month old and 4-year-old are really enthralled with this toy. I'm surprised by the technology - the fact that it knows what color it is touching! I had to show the kids how to push hard enough to make the toy "click" so it can capture which color it is touching, but they both picked up on that pretty quickly. My 17-month-old typically just pushes on the "clicky" part at the bottom of the wand to make it sing. We hear the orange song a lot because of that ;) There are two settings - one makes simple music notes (a different note for each color). Rainbow Jam comes with a book of songs that you can use the wand on. Unless your kiddo is older, I imagine it would take them quite a bit of thinking/processing to go around the house to play actual songs by touching different colors. The other setting plays really catchy, fun tunes when a color is touched! We've had the toy for nearly a week, and I have yet to be annoyed by it ;) Overall, cool technology in this toy that engages children to sing, make new songs and more! I'd definitely recommend this.

My 2 year old loves this! She is on the go all the time and will actually sit and play with this. It has been helpful with her colors and she loves the music.

Having a hard covered/hard paged book would work a lot better.

This toy is a huge hit in my house! My three year old is amazed by the magic of the wand recognizing colors. She loves to bring this in the car, in the stroller, on walks...you name it. The color songs are quite cute and catchy. The "music maker" option is cute and allows young children to start distinguishing that different musical notes make up one song.
There are a few cons associated with this toy...like any toy that makes noise it can get annoying for parents after awhile (especially in the car). The other con is the wand has to be positioned just right in order to use the music maker option with the book. In other words if it's not lined up properly the notes all sound the exact same regardless of the varying colors. The wand must have a default note or something. Once we got the hang of it the problem went away though.

It was fun initially, but there weren't many songs to play with. Would have been cool if you could apply the wand to anything and it tell the color! The song book was flimsy. Can use on plush floor or couch. If you loose the book, can't use the wand to anything else.

I received this product as a gift for my 2 year-old niece. She loves the music, and the mic fits perfectly in her little hands. I have to admit, that even the adults had fun with this because it will tell you the color of anything, not just the items in the book. We enjoyed testing the limitations on various fabrics and skin tones in our home! :)
