Ace does not work on big kids cards

Ace DOES NOT work on the "Big Kid" cards. I have tried at three to confirm this. It would be nice if the manufacturer would state this plainly somewhere.

My 4.5yo daughter really enjoys this pen. She likes hearing all the sounds (luckily mostly the good sounds). It doesn't seem like she's had any problems with it. I like that there are quite a few different card sets that go along with it. I feel like we'll get some good mileage out of it.

good pen for hot dots jr. sets

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots® Jr. "Ace" - the Talking, Teaching Dog®:

We received this Hot Dots pen for use with the Hot Dots Jr. Patterns and Sequencing set. My sons were attracted to the shape of the pen and it made them more likely to use the review cards without prompting. When the pen is placed on the black circles next to the possible answers on the flash cards it will give feedback on whether the answer is correct or incorrect. With dog whimpering or enthusiastic "Way to go!" I found my kids trying out all answers on each card just to see the pens response. There seems to be 5-6 possible correct and 5-6 incorrect responses from the pen including sayings, sounds and vibration. Although a bit top heavy the pen is easy to hold. It can not be used as a regular pen, only as a response pen for Hot Dot sets. It works with the grade k+ sets as well as the jr. sets although I have been told it may not work with Hot Dot sets for older children. The price point may be a bit steep but when choosing a Hot Dots pen this is a very fun choice.

I received this item for review but all opinions are my own.

We have a few "ace" dogs from our hot dots kits. I love that you can change the volume, or from talking to noises. My 2 year old can easily use him as well as my 6 year old!

We purchased the Hot Dots Jr. Phonics and math sets a couple of years ago for our Pre-k class to use and they have loved it! The only problem now is that one of the Ace dogs isn't working properly. We have changed batteries to see if that would help, but no success. Is there any other suggestions as to what we can do to get him working properly again?

Bought my kids the hot dots Jr and "ace" says everything is correct. As you can see these aren't cheap and they don't work. I've cleaned the tip and changed the batteries. Still doesn't work.

My son received "Ace the talking dog" and workbooks from his grandparents. He is 3 and eager to learn. My son was excited when he received the correct answers. The first two days were great. Ace worked great, but after the second day, every answer he chose was wrong (even the correct answers). I thought maybe there was a special way he had to hold the pen; however, when I selected the right answer it did not work for me either. Now, my son is no longer interested in the workbooks. :(
