Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots® Flash Cards States & Capitals:

We are a house full of Hot Dots lovers and I was excited to get the U.S. States & Capitals set since we are studying that next year (3rd grade). Each card includes the state facts (nickname, statehood date/rank, bird & flower) as well as the general area where the state is located. The hot dot pen is used to locate the state in question among 5 options in the geographical area. On the reverse of these smaller sized cards (about 3x5), is the us map with only the state grayed, a few facts about the state and a handful of cities within the state to identify the capital with the hot dot pen. I like these cards because unlike regular flashcards with just the stats, it has a few interesting facts, you see where the in the country the state is AND you learn more than one city in the state, too.

My biggest complaint is that they are just black and white. Even older kids prefer color :). We took them on our latest road trip and my second grader played with them on the way down and declared that they "weren't fun." And they probably aren't. But they ARE good for an interesting (and independent!) review of states and capitals that are being learned in school. I would buy them anyway--they were on my list of items to buy for the upcoming school year. As always, they come in a sturdy box that does fit the pen (but is not included), and they cards are of decent quality.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this item in exchange for an honest review.

my son loves it. He is 8 and this definitely keeps his attention. I love that this toy will teach him about each state, not only capitals, but location on a map and small facts about each one. I am really excited about how much he wants to play with this.

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots® Flash Cards States & Capitals:

I received the Hot Dots States & Capitals set for my 6 year old son. He is a few years away from learning about states and capitals in school, so it is nice to have this set to be able to do some pre-teaching. It has been a big success in our home!

This set comes with 50 sturdy cards that are double-sided. On one side, there is a map of the United States, and the kid needs to select the location of the state they are looking for. (I'm going to be honest and admit that this helped my geography skills, as well!) On the other side, the kid selects the name and location of that state's capital. There is also a short amount of interesting information written about the capital on this side.

This set needs to be used with a Hot Dots Talking Pen – a "pen" that the kids touch to the correct answer. This is a fun way to learn and review US geography, and I highly recommend it.

I received this item free for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
We received this set along with another HOT DOTS set and a pen. The pen is NOT included, so this makes a great addition to other complete sets. This will be a great tool when my children are required to know state locations and capitals. One side of the card has the student choose the correct state out of five choices. It also includes state facts like nickname, statehood, bird and flower. The other side has the student choose the correct capital out of four choices and list capital facts. Very informative for learning US Geography. I noticed another reviewer commented on Missouri being in the wrong location. This has been fixed as it is correct on our card set.

My son is in 3rd grade. He loves these cards. This box of cards needs to be used with a Hot Dots pen (not included). You mark your answer with the pen and it tells you if you are right or wrong. On one side of the card is a state name and a map of the US with dots on 4 different states and you need to pick which state is the one that you are looking for. It also includes these state facts: nickname, the date it became a state (and which number it was), state bird, and state flower. The other side of the card is a picture of the state with a few dots and city names, and you are supposed to indicate which city is the capital. It also gives a couple of facts about the capital city.
This is a fantastic way for your child to study the states and the capitals. Using the pen, they get instant feedback on whether they are correct or not. We have come across one problem however. The Missouri card is wrong. The Missouri state is not one of the dots on the card, and it actually tells you that Missouri is where Utah is. For this reason, I cannot give it 5 stars. This is the only mistake we have come across.
