This is a pretty fun little kit! My kids love listening to the stories and then using the owl to answer the questions at the end. My two-year-old is pretty young for the concept, but with some help from us (or his four-year-old sister) he can do it. One thing we have run into is that you have to get the pen right on the dot, and my daughter (who is four) is occasionally frustrated by that. All in all, it's a fun way to switch up reading time a little bit, and it's a fun way for my kids to learn to cooperate and share because there's only one pen. :)

We use this and yes my 3Year old loves to play with Ollie. He also loves the stories, but he keeps constantly questioning the Owl.there are many examples to press the pen on for right answers, then there are dots to press.unfortunately the pen only recognizes the dots.this means if the exercise is to find "ovals" and there are 7 ovals, there are only dots on 3 of them. if a child presses on any other oval, the owl will comment that that is wrong. very confusing for a child.there are multible situations like it throughout all books."shapes";"what is hot", "what can fly"; "what can you eat", etc...these books are bad quality. they will make for great recycling paper.i would NEVER recoment this product. there are better educational toys out there, that will not tell a child he is wrong when he clearly is right.i am VERY sorry to have spend my money on this.

My kids love this. It has all their favorite stories and helps them read and interact with the book with the awesome stylus pen. The Owl quickly became a fun friend. They love the activities on each page and the fun stories. It is helping my 5 year old with his reading and getting him ready for Kindergarten. My three year old loves listening to the stories and trying the activities as well. Overall a great gift for kids.
Fun Reading Set-Makes a great gift!

About Me Parent Of Two Or More Children
We received a Hot Dots Jr and my kids were immediately attracted to the packaging which features a Wise Owl pen, and 4 story books. Unlike traditional books, Hot Dots JR allows kids to answer questions while reading the story. It is a much funner way to engage children while they are learning to read. My kids also love the featured books so that helps keep their attention. This requires 2 AA batteries not included.

My daughter got the Princess Fairy Tales set and my son loved them. A few weeks later he got this set and he was so excited. He knows the stories and loves hearing them over and over again. I like that the stories incorporate math and reading skills into the book. He loves holding Ollie to answer the questions. I'm really happy we have this and it's great for keeping my son busy while we wait at dance or the doctor's office.
Princesses, Fairy Tales & Wands!

My 4 year old was especially excited to see the pretty pink princess box arrive in the mail. The packaging is fabulous. It comes in a sturdy cardboard box with a handle making it easy to grab & go. It stores really nice, too.The four stories inside are of "lesser known" princess tales -- The Princess & the Frog, The Princess & the Pea, Twelve Dancing Princesses and Rapunzel. Each story is contained in its own book and each two page spread has an activity for your princess to do using the pink talking, light up Hot Dot wand that is included. The activities include shape, alphabet, counting, patterns, size, pairs and more. The books themselves are of fabulous quality. Very durable -- they feel like laminated cardstock. From a kids standpoint they are awesome. Four princess stories and a fancy wand (that works with any Hot Dots or Hot Dot Jr item) and lots of pink. From a mom's POV, they contain solidly PreK activities and the stories are well told. They are enjoyable to read and use with my little girl. Plus, you can add any Hot Dot / Hot Dot Jr card or book set & you already have the wand.It would make a great gift for a preschool girl for Christmas, Easter, Birthday or whatever. Especially if you need one for a birthday party & you don't know them super well. Any little girl I know would love this. Just be sure to include 2 AAA's.Disclaimer: I received this item from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The product is packaged really nicely and the stories are cute.

I have two reluctant readers, so I am always looking for ways to inspire them with something new that will hopefully inspire them to give reading another try. I really enjoy the Hot Dots, Jr. Favorite Fairy Tales book set. The stories are classics; I want my kids to be familiar with them. Each page has a question that can be answered using the Hot Dots 'talking pen.' The pen can respond with sounds, words, music or a combination. My kids had a great time answering the questions using the pen. They can do this while I am reading the story to them, as well as on their own, when I am too busy to read to them.Overall, I think this is a great product both for building our library and for encouraging the development of reading and pre-reading skills.
A GREAT introduction to Language and Lit

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Hot Dots Jr, Favorite Fairy Tales! We use this set in our Pre-K classroom during center time and the kids absolutely love it! They always want to be the first to use it and have even named the Owl, "Hoot"!All of the Hot Dots Jr's come in a very durable box allowing for easy storage and easy stacking if you have more then one. The adorable interactive Owl pen is bright and colorful which definitely makes it appealing for the kiddos to want to use, both boys and girls alike! The stories included are nicely illustrated and are familiar to the children while also offering a fun little twist to each one. Because of the enticement for constant interaction, the Hot Dot's allows the "reader" to participate throughout the whole storybook keeping them interested and excited.Hot Dots Jr. Favorite Fairy Tales is a great learning set that definitely introduces children to the world of Language and Literacy and prepares them for the skills needed to read on their own.
Awesome Learning to Read Set!

About Me First Time Parent, Stay At Home Parent
My son just started learning to read and write on his own and was very excited about this gift! He just loves it. This set has 4 24-page books and it comes with the Hot Dots Jr. Ollie-the Talking, Teaching OwlTM electronic pen and there are 11 activities in the books. What I really like about this set is that my son can listen to the story and see the words up close so he is starting to read better. These books are great before bedtime or anytime really. The pictures are very bright and colorful. The sound affects are fantastic and my son gets a kick out of them. The fairytales are awesome. a lot of them my husband and I grew up with so it is awesome that my son can hear all the same one. I love that he is learning while having fun and he doesn't even realize it! I am always looking for great teaching tools and i really Love the Hot Dots Collection.
