I received a Hot Dots Tots My World from Educational Insights for my child to try out. We have quite a few Hot Dots products and really enjoy them. They are great for at home or in the car because there are not a lot of pieces and nothing that can make a mess in the car. This set comes with an Elliot the Teaching Bear pen/stylus and two board books. I found that with this pen after I put the batteries in, it did not make any noise to tell that it was working. It only makes noise if used in the book. I was afraid it didn't work until I tried it out in the book. The sound it makes when a correct answer is chosen is a little melody that is pleasant, and there is no wrong answer sound with this pen. That is the thing my daughter liked the most. She doesn't like getting things wrong. There is no volume setting on the pen and while it's not super loud, it would be nice to bring the noise down just a little. One book is about things in the house and the other is around the town. The story books are cute and each page has a question on it that you use the Elliot pen to answer. These are good stories for a parent to read with the child and ask questions. My daughter is 5 and while she enjoyed this product, she is advanced in reading and read through them by herself very fast. I feel that it would be better for the 2-4 age range with parents help. But we were still very happy with it and will be passing it down for my two little nieces to enjoy and we will continue to use Hot Dots products.

I loved the Hot Dots 3rd grade math for my son so I was really excited to receive Hot Dots Tots My World to review. I was so disappointed in this product. I gave it to my 4 year old nephews to play with. First off, the bear pen, while really cute, is really hard to use for toddlers. You had to push down in the exact spot with a good amount of force to get it to work. The boys liked that it lit up, but quickly grew bored with just the two musical responses for right or wrong. They love books, but weren't fond of the two that came with the set. This is definitely for younger children, maybe 2 year olds. Thankfully Hot Dots are better for the older kids.

Elliot is ready to help your kids learn! He is a cute little guy and fits wonderfully into your kids hands. They simply press the pen onto the right answer and Elliot will answer them (musically) if they are correct. Such a sweet gift! Love it!

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots® Tots My World Interactive Board Book Set:

My 3 year old daughter was ecstatic to play with another Hot Dots Tots book. She adores Elliot, the teddy bear wand, that plays musical tunes when she puts him on the correct answer in the book. This is an interactive book which means that there are questions and when Elliot is applied to the correct answer music will be played. The music is pleasant and not too loud. Just so you know when the answer is wrong no music is played (Hots Dots Tots focuses on positive reinforcement). The size of the books and Elliot is perfect to fit in my purse and we bring it along when we go someplace that might require some waiting. The books are sturdy which is perfect for little toddlers hands especially the hands that belong to my children. The images are colorful and engaging. The books help to introduce vocabulary, prepositions, adjectives, shapes and colors to name a few. Since we already have Hot Dots Tots (All About Me set) my daughter immediately recognized and grabbed this new set from my hands. I received Hot Dots from Educational Insights at no charge in exchange for my completely honest review.

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots® Tots My World Interactive Board Book Set:

We are a huge fan of the Hot Dots products and we were excited to see the Hot Dots Tot products come out.

This set is a little different than the Hot Dots or Hot Dots Jr sets. First, they are not interchangeable. Second, a wrong answer does not produce a different response so the child might just think it's not working.

The Elliot is smaller and shorter making it easier for smaller hands to use. It is kind of exacting. If the bear is not straight up and down on the sensor (which you can see/feel through the pages of the book), it doesn't work. I would kind of expect it to have a little more "slop" for a younger audience to enjoy using it on their own. Our almost 2 year old did manage to figure it out though.

The books are super sturdy board books and my son really likes them with or without Elliot (which we have already misplaced). My biggest wish is that you could buy more books without getting yet another Elliot (although since we have already "lost" ours, it's not a big deal). I'm going to add the animal set to our Christmas wish list.

Overall, it's super cute and I would totally buy it, but you do need to be aware that some parent/sibling guidance/encouragement will be needed. And that it's not interchangeable with other lines (Hot Dot & Hot Dot JR).

Disclaimer: I received this item in exchange for an honest review.

I received this product to use in my speech therapy sessions. I used it with my preschool and kindergarten aged students. They enjoyed the book and the being able to have Elliott the Bear signal if they were correct or not. The books are short but we were able to work on some concepts- opposites, vocabulary, turn taking, etc. The only downside is they are short. The books are rated for ages 2+. I can see that my preschoolers (age 4) would enjoy reading them again but the older students not as much.

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots® Tots My World Interactive Board Book Set:

Our 2 year old son loves these books! He couldn't wait for me to install the batteries in the bear before he dove right into the books. We have other similar items from other companies, but this set was much more appropriate for his age. He played for the books for close to 15 minutes, which anyone with a two year old knows is a long time! He's learning as he plays with this toy, which is important for me as a teacher as well as mom. We've been working on his vocabulary, and this book set has helped him grasp new words. The bear is perfectly sized for his hands, and he was able to figure out how to make it work in a matter of minutes. This has become a favorite of our little guy! Highly recommend as a mom and an educator for kids 2-3 in age.

We received this item as part of the EI play panel for review. All opinions expressed are our own.

The idea was great, but I thought the Elliot Bear pen would do more? The stories are ok, but like mentioned before, a little short. The bear has to be pushed and held for a second to make the sound. We had to teach our daughter how to use the bear before reading the books. At 2.5 years old, the questions were a little easy for her. We finished both books in a few minutes. The bear pen does hold her attention, and she enjoys playing with it and the books on her own.
