Comments about Hot Dots® Reading Informational Text, Grades 4-6:

This is an excellent tool for differentiation based on reading level. The pack has 40 short (yes! great for short attention spans) nonfiction texts in a range of reading levels (3.7-6.6). There is an awesome table of contents card that lists the passages, their reading level, and the common core standards that each question is associated with. Each passage is also accompanied by a Try This! activity which is clutch for early finishers.

The way I use this in my classroom is I give the students a few options of passages they could read (based on RL). Then, I have them answer the questions on the back using a dry erase marker. Then, they check their answers using the Hot Dots pen. They LOVE using the pen. It actually motivates them to read the passage! It gives an audio and visual response so they can see if they were correct/incorrect. This is a great addition to mix it up a little bit and make answering comprehension questions more engaging.
