Comments about Hot Dots® Let's Master Grade 1 Reading:
My son loves playing with the Hot Dots Jr. sets. This Hot Dots 1st grade reading is going to be so great for him in the near future. After looking through the book I know what kinds are things are coming up and can watch for him to be ready for this book in case it is before 1st grade. I want my child to be an accelerated learner and with the help of Hot Dots I know he can be. This pen is a great motivational tool. Lights and sound good off when an answer is chosen. This will help my child be able to do the books on his own in the car or at home. Moving from one Hot Dots book to the next is going to be so helpful in my child's education.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Education Oriented
Hot Dots Let's Master Reading is such a fun and easy game for kids to play both independently and with a small group. The packaging is easy to keep organized and both the pen and book fit back into the original box. As a classroom teacher it is important that the kids can access the materials by themselves and with this product there is nothing to worry about. The book covers many reading skills and the directions are also easy to understand and read, so my students can be even more independent! If you are looking for a gift or a classroom resources this would be perfect!

We started with the Hot Dots Jr Kindergarten reading set and now are moving onto this Hot Dots First Grade Reading set. This set includes 2 spiral-bound books and Hot Dots Jr. "Ace"-the Talking, Teaching DogTM interactive, electronic Hot Dots pen. This set is very challenging for my son, but a challenge is good. It works very simply. There are black dots next to each question, my son then picks and answer and places the Hot Dots pen on his choice. If he is right the pen turns green and gives him positive reinforcement. When he gets the answer wrong the pen turns red and tells him to try again. My son just loves to learn and these sets are really taking him to the next level. He is excelling in his academics and he is always being praised by his teachers. I would not trade these sets for anything and I really recommend them! The set is very colorful, durable and I think it will last a very long time!

I received Hot Dots Let's Master Grade 1 Reading free for review. All opinions are my own.Hot Dots Let's Master Grade 1 Reading includes an interactive talking Hot Dots Pen and two Hot Dots workbooks. The workbooks include questions, and multiple choice answers with a black dot next to each possible response. Your child will use the Hot Dots pen to select an answer by vertically pressing down on one of the dots. If the answer is correct a positive reinforcement will be heard and the pen will light up green. If the answer is wrong, a try again message will sound and the pen will light up red. The Grade 1 Reading books cover topics such as phonics, sight words, reading comprehension, punctuation and grammar. My oldest is in 1st grade and this is a great supplemental reading tool for her. She can do the book independently and loves to bring it along when we are in the car. She can also bring it with us to waiting rooms because it has the ability to adjust or mute the sound, but still light up to let her know if her answer is right or wrong. My daughter is an independent learner, so this is an extremely attractive learning tool for her. She spends at least 30 minutes a day with her Hot Dots set, and that's of her own choosing. Overall this is a great supplemental kit for teaching first grade age kids reading. The pages are durable and made to last through repeated use. These books can be used as a teaching tool and as a review for previous concepts to reinforce those ideas. I recommend this kit to anyone with a first grade aged child. It's a great introduction to reading for them.
Fun with Learning

My grandson really enjoyed Hot Dot's Let's Master 1st Grade Reading. As with the math he liked going through the book with me sitting there although he could do most of it himself. He went through the books for about 25 minutes before even suggesting he wanted to be done. He liked that the pen would let him know rather he was right or wrong. I think this set is educational for learning and also as a confidence booster once they have read through a few times and know the answers.

Stepping up to first grade in style!
By Maine Mummy
Hot Dots let's master 1st Grade Reading is a great step up from the Kindergarten set. No longer concerned with simply identifying letters, you start by matching pictures to the word they represent. Not to be too boring, the identifier are mixed up, so you have to connect a picture of a girl getting sun burnt to "hot sun" for example. This set is great at maintaining a level of interest. It builds on skills started in the Kindergarten series by focusing on the differences between vowel sounds and bringing consonants together to start teaching different sounds like "sh" and "ch." If your child breezed through the Kindergarten set they might be ready for this, but if they are missing any letters they are going to have a tough time. The methods are much the same, but developed to the higher level. So where in the word "Fish" you would have had to identify "h" as the last letter, you know have to identify the "sh" as the ending sound. The second books builds on the skills of the first book, introducing the correct ways to write things such as "Mrs. vs mrs". You are also introduced to a more complex picture matching series, in which you are given a detailed picture and have to find the only word that could match. My favorite challenges in this series were for matching the capital letters, in which you learn which letters to capitalize and which to leave lowercase. A great step up for a child who likes working with the system. There is a wider difference between the K and 1 books than between the pre-K and K, but the only real downside is the lack of Ace and inclusion of a more generic pen. My son insisted we keep using Ace!
