Comments about GeoSafari® Talking Planetary Mat:

I bought this to use in our homeschooling. I was sad to see Pluto wasn't included, though it was disclosed in the description. It worked straight out of the box. Busy moms LOVE that! My 5 and 4 year olds were very interested in it, but my 23 month old went crazy over it! Keep toddlers away! The voice prompts won't continue if another planet gets pressed. This frustrated my 4yo who wanted to hear the information, but I couldn't keep my 23 month old from stomping across it and touching all the planets over and over. We'll play with this when the little one is napping!

Comments about GeoSafari® Talking Planetary Mat:

At the Public Star Parties and Educational Outreach events that our astronomy club hosts, planets are always a popular target for telescopes. Kids especially love to see the cloud bands of Jupiter, and I have yet to meet someone who isn't blown away by seeing the Rings of Saturn with their own eyes. So when I set up this Planetary Mat recently for a group of kids, it was an instant hit.

The Mat itself is glossy plastic and well constructed. I've had it out on sidewalks, concrete floors, and bare ground and aside from some scuff marks has come through with flying colors. The scale is also one tough customer. Like any scale, it does require a hard, flat surface or else it doesn't measure weights very accurately. Soft carpets and grass don't work very well.

The kids at our events loved the missions, and it became a game to see who could guess what each child would weigh on a specific planet.

The narration by Neil deGrasse Tyson is well done. The sound bites are easy to understand, and several children immediately recognized his voice from the recent Cosmos series reboot.

Even when we're not at a star party, my daughter loves to set this up and pretend she's an astronaut travelling through the solar system. All I have to do is turn it on, and she knows how to do the rest.

If you have a child that loves space, or want them to learn, you'll love this mat!
